Real OP has signed German striker Ashton Watson to a two-year contract through the end of the 2025 season, the club announced today.
Watson has risen to fame in the KCAFF/Select League community, coming out of his stellar performance with Germany during the 2022 KCAFF World Cup. Although only 19 years old, he was a powerhouse on the field, spearheading one of the deadliest offenses of the tournament. While injury mostly kept him off the field in the first game against USA, he fought back and eventually amassed a total of 6 goals in 3 games started and led his team to 3rd place during the cup, winning the Golden Ball for his performance. Besides starring at the 2022 KCAFF World Cup, Watson has had much experience playing in the different soccer leagues in Kansas City, having played several seasons in the Sporting Adult Soccer League, Johnson County Adult Soccer League, and All American Indoor Adult Soccer League.
Certain to dazzle Select League spectators in the coming seasons, Watson is a versatile player and capable of playing any of the 3 positions on the top. He has gathered recognition for his explosive speed, his dribbling capabilities, and a goal-scoring talent. A massive transfer battle was created as Olathe United and Real Overland Park entered talks with the striker, seeking to sign what would be a huge boost to their roster. A large amount of speculation arose as to which club he would sign with, and soon those rumors were put to rest as he agreed to move forward and sign a two-year contract with Real OP.
“Playing and training with him these last couple of years, I have seen his growth as a player and a human being. We have wanted him on the team since Michael and I started Real OP. I knew that Ashton would be vital in the club's development and a leader in the locker room. I am delighted to be able to announce Ashton's signing with Real OP finally.” - Real OP Co-Owner Colin Cooper
Alongside signing veterans such as Nate Bliss and Alex Atzenweiler, Real Overland Park has amassed quite a tally of young stars among the likes of Ashton Watson, Christian Alatorre, Vitinho, and Jason Stevenson. Especially with Watson being the 2022 KCAFF World Cup Golden Ball Winner, is it safe to say that Real Overland Park is in the forefront for winning the 2024 Select League trophy?
