Real Overland Park has signed 19-year-old South African midfielder Jason Stevenson to a two-year contract through the end of the 2025 season, the club announced today.
Stevenson played on loan for England during the 2022 KCAFF World Cup, and soon proved to be one of the most important players for the team. England led what amounted to be an unsuccessful campaign, losing all three games and finishing last in their group, but Stevenson showed his worth by being one of the most persevering, talented, and consistent players on the team, and eventually was a finalist for the Golden Ball Award of the tournament.
While primarily placed in the midfield, Stevenson has demonstrated excellent versatility and adaptability, being capable of playing in attacking positions as well. Unsurprisingly, Real Overland Park was not the only club interested in Stevenson, as Olathe United also expressed interest in signing the South African. However, Real OP would end up being more enticing to the midfielder and would sign him to what is amounting to be a star-studded roster.
“Even though we weren’t able to sign him off the get-go because of transfer battles with Olathe United, we are thrilled to finally announce this crucial signing for us. Stevenson is such a great player on and off the pitch. He has a wonderful work-ethic and great potential for this club and we look forward to seeing him on the field next season. ” – Real OP Co-Owner Michael Nichols
